Anorexia is a kind of eating disorder. In this eating disorder, people start to remain hungry even if they are thin and slim. They tend to stop eating thinking that they look fat and stout. Such people are not concerned about their health. They are concerned about their physical appearance only. Anorexia is common in teenage girls. This disease affects them at the beginning of adolescence. Girls suffering from anorexia undergo drastic weight loss. Their total body weight becomes 14 to 15 percent less than the normal body weight. Although, persons having anorexia are very weak but they are still persuaded that they are fat. Such feelings are triggered due a terror in their mind. The anorexics think that if they eat even a little bit of food, they will become fat. They do vigorous exercises to loose weight. Most of them also take the help of chemical supplements. These methods to reduce weight are very harmful. Anorexia is common among the people among whom being slim is looked upon as an added advantage. Models, film stars and high society people are the most affected people of this disease. There are several symptoms to detect Anorexia. If a young girl misses her menstrual cycle three times, she may have anorexia. Other symptoms are abnormally being obsessed about the food intake, sleeping disorders, extreme weight loss, breathing problem, dry skin and fretfulness. Women who suffer from Anorexia also have problem in conceiving. They are afraid of putting on weight. And during pregnancy, a woman definitely puts on around 20 pounds. Anorexia leads to other health problems, such as mineral loss from the body, shrinking of bones, joints pain, lowering of temperature of body and uneven pulse rate. It is not impossible to overcome anorexia. With proper medical care and family support anorexia is completely curable.
